Healthy Tomorrow

Disability Awareness Education

Healthy Tomorrow (HT) is an overarching disability awareness educational program evolved from the more specific wellness goals of the RRTC. Its objective is to foster knowledge of disability-related issues in our citizens ab initio by focusing in on children in their early, formative years.

Our pilot efforts with preschoolers are working to increase empathetic insight into living with a disability. This goal builds on work well-established in project T2, extending the notion of professionals beyond the clinical professions that serve persons with disabilities through a balance of treating and teaching to teachers in other, extra-clinical, community venues such as schools. Persons with disability (SCI) co-teach children portions of the Healthy Tomorrow lesson series and leave their mark as "heros" to be admired rather than persons with disability who are different.
